VERDICT

If you need a smart lock for your home or office where people can access through multiple smart methods like Fingerprint, Access Code and Smartphone, Ultraloq UL3 is undoubtedly a good one.

You know what is Keyless technology. But have you about heard about RealKeyless? Ultraloq UL3 BT is the thing.

Systems of locking/unlocking have changed noticeably. People now unlock their home front door using access codes, biometric, voice activation and more. They simply don’t want to use a physical key anymore.

Ultraloq UL3 BT is also a smart lock and does the job of keyless entry. But in addition to that, it provides you five smart and different ways to unlock doors.

It is one sort of feature-rich lock in the market right now. And its ultimate goal is that you will never be bored to unlock.

Head straight to the main content below and see if this is what you need.

Built & Design

Hardware-wise there are two versions of Ultraloq UL3. One is Basic and the other is Bluetooth. The Bluetooth one is more feature-rich and offers two extra ways to unlock. You can opt for whatever you need.

This is basically a lever style lock. You put your fingerprint or code and unlock the door by turning the lever. The display on the lock is OLED and touchscreen. You can add, edit or delete access codes using an intuitive process on the display.

The body is fully made of zinc alloy which is compliance with the IP65 rating. This rating means this device will fully operate under dust and rain. So no problem whether you set it up indoor or outdoor.

Ultraloq UL3 has not received any grade certification from ANSI yet. The seller says it is currently in the process and they have internally tested it through ANSI Grade 1. It seems okay for residential use.

This lock is available in two colors, Satin Nickel and Aged Bronze. Take the one that goes better with your home.

Features

Fingerprint Access: Ultraloq UL3 has a good fingerprint reader which can store up to 95 different fingerprints. It works almost instantly. The reader will identify your fingerprint in 0.5 second.

Code Access: The OLED touchscreen display will prompt a keypad. You can gain access using programmable codes on the keypad. The anti-peep feature will keep your code hidden from others.

App Access: You can unlock your door simply by clicking unlock in the Ultraloq App. It uses Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy to connect to your phone which will work even in power or internet outages.

Shake/Knock Access: If you the have the Ultraloq app on your phone, you can unlock your door without even opening it. Simply knock the screen with your hand 4 times or shake it heavily 4-5 times, the door will unlock.

Mechanical Key Access: You will receive 3 backup mechanical keys to unlock the door. When no smart technology is working, you will be able to unlock it in the traditional style. The keyhole has a secret placement so it will stay out of sight.

Auto Relocking: This is simple yet important. When this lock is in the normal mode, your door will automatically lock after 4 seconds of being unlocked. You don’t need to lock it manually.

Auto Light-up Sensor: It features an auto light-up sensor for the touchscreen keypad. This is really useful for using it at night. Just take your hand over the keypad and it will illuminate automatically.

Reversible Door Lever: Are you left-handed or right-handed? Practically it doesn’t matter for Ultraloq UL3. You can install the lever in both directions without tweaking the hardware.

Weatherproof: This lock has a standard IP65 rating which can stand out in dust, rain or whatever the condition is. It will operate nicely whether you install it on an interior or exterior door.

Installation

This smart lock follows DIY approach. If you have the appropriate hole drilled, you can install the lock in 10 to 20 minutes. You need to make sure a few things:

  • Door thickness is between 1-3/8” and 1-3/4”
  • Hole is 2-1/8”
  • Backset is either 2-3/8” or 2-3/4″
  • Latch hole is 1″

You will receive a paper made drill template for drilling your door correctly. If you have the hole in order, you will need a screwdriver to mount the lock with screws. There is an optional security screw (need an extra hole) for making it more sturdy.

The battery cover, on the back side, is attached by a single screw. You can uncover it easily using your screwdriver. There is simply no wiring required for this device.

Battery

Ultraloq UL3 requires 3 AA Alkaline batteries which can take load up to 8,000 access. The battery life is good. It consumes very low power because of the lever mechanism. It may last up to 1 year depending on your usage.

The battery compartment is on the inner side of the lock. You can open up the battery compartment by opening one screw and replace the batteries whenever you need to.

There is a low battery sensor that will pop up in the display and give sound alerts. The lock will start alerting when you approximately have 1 thousand access left in the battery life.

You will receive 3 mechanical keys for backup. If your lock, unfortunately, shuts down without any warning, you can still gain access. The keyhole has a secret placement and will stay hidden from normal sights.

Note that Worth: Is The Ultraloq UL3 BT Secure Enough?

Ultraloq UL3 has a solid zinc alloy built and can stand out in dust and rain without problems. It offers you a handful of ways to manage entry smartly. The fingerprint reader can recognize your identity quickly. The auto relocking feature keeps your door secured even though you forget to lock.

The only thing I am concerned is the ANSI rating. It is in the market for quite a while but has not received any rating yet. Maybe it will take another few months. The seller did confirm that it is currently in process of getting a rating. Whatsoever, the user reviews don’t seem to question about the built quality.

If you are considering Ultraloq UL3, consider buying the bluetooth version (BT). It will add the method to unlock by your smartphone. But most importantly it will enable you to manage users who can access and view access logs.
